Arsenal's manager has expressed confidence that his squad can persist in handling with fitness issues after revealing that star striker Kai Havertz remains out for a few more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for Havertz

Havertz has been sidelined since the summer due to knee surgery. Originally slated to come back at the start of this month, Arteta revealed the player hit a snag when advancing his rehabilitation and could not progress “the required stage.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a squad that is far more dependable and has increased versatility,” Arteta said.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This update presents a tactical puzzle for the midweek home game against Brentford. Arteta must choose between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who scored playing out of position last weekend, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly off the bench in the latter stages. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus remains an option following a lengthy absence.

Defensive Concerns Linger

More doubts affect centre-back William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Chelsea match. Therefore, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to start again in the heart of the defence for the league leaders.

Arteta believes the £250m spend on new players in the last transfer window has placed the club in a far better place to deal with such absences.

Greater Options Key to Title Challenge

When asked if a larger pool of players was aiding their league challenge, the manager agreed. “Absolutely, because this season has been worse in the attacking line, and now what’s happening with the backline,” he added.

“History has shown us that we need to utilize players in various roles, and they need to be prepared to adapt to new tasks if we aim to challenge at the top. And the instance of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Arteta's Support for Suffering Star

Commenting on the setback highlighted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave more insight. “His recovery was progressing. He could not go to the subsequent stage and now it’s looking like we have solved that issue.”

Arteta expressed his keenness to have him back. “We’re all desperate to have him. Truly, he is a footballer who, in my view, I love so much for what he brings to the team, but his mentality, his personality. I see him suffer being outside.”

“His availability record is exceptional, he's usually fit, and I can’t wait to get him back around the team and playing because I believe it’s going to be a huge lift.”
