Brian Eno Calls On Public Help to Send Together for Palestine Track to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The effort hopes to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also spotlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Chance for Support and an "Chart Upset"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to stand with Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“The song holds a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The track was produced in the wake of a solidarity show held in September. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the rendition was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of artists contributing to Lullaby encompasses a range of acclaimed names from the industry. All were part of the benefit event, which successfully generated a significant sum for relief efforts.
Production and Release
Lullaby was produced by a team of talented individuals. The track showcases a combination of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The team running the campaign have stated that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a charitable pot. These donations will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a representative commented. “We’ll go for whatever we can get. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The situation in the territory was described as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of buildings said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is above all spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
