Esteemed actress Helen Mirren Set to Receive Globes' Cecil B DeMille Award.
The acclaimed British actress Mirren, currently recipient of an Academy Award, four Baftas, Golden Globe wins, five Emmy Awards, and a Tony, will soon receive another prestigious accolade to her collection: the DeMille Globes' lifetime achievement award.
Award Event
Mirren, octogenarian, who was made a dame back in 2003 and made a Bafta fellow in 2014, will pick up the award at an event January 8, three days before the primary Globes ceremony take place, within a ceremony promoted by the Golden Globes as the Golden Eve event.
Also part of the event will be the presentation of the organization’s Carol Burnett award for television achievement, the honoree for which has yet to be announced. Last year’s winners featured Viola Davis and Ted Danson.
“Dame Helen represents a force of nature, and her career is absolutely extraordinary,” remarked Helen Hoehne, Helen Hoehne. “Her transcendent performances and commitment to her craft constantly motivate generations of artists and fans too. It is a profound honour to bestow upon her the Cecil B DeMille award.”
Notable Roles
The star gained prominence back in the 70s via important performances on stage at London’s West End and through the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as in movies like O Lucky Man!, Caligula & The Long Good Friday.
Back in the 90s, her lead performance in the investigative show Prime Suspect broadened her fanbase further. Additional notable movies include Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park & Calendar Girls.
She earned an Academy Award for her role as the Queen in 2006 film The Queen, a part she returned to back in 2013 for The Audience, the stage production by Peter Morgan about the meetings between the queen and the PM Margaret Thatcher, and for which she earned a Tony during 2015.
Recent and Upcoming Projects
- More recent films include Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda & Barbie, which she narrated.
- Her performance in the streaming adaptation for The Thursday Murder Club has also been praised and honors speculation is increasing about her portrayal as a terminally ill matriarch in the film by Kate Winslet first directing effort, Goodbye June.
- In the coming year, Mirren will be seen as Patricia Highsmith in Corbijn’s dramatic film, Switzerland.
Globes nominations are set to be revealed on the eighth of December, including Anderson’s One Battle After Another, Zhao’s Hamnet and Coogler’s Sinners expected to feature heavily.
