Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” the coach said. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and he’s talking that way.”

Authorities shared video stills earlier this week of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday morning about halfway between MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was transported to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There’s a process to this, which I won’t get into, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive during the current season, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as a free agent in spring and was expected to be a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on August 2 and was carted from the field.

Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, a Texas native, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
