LA Battles Record-Breaking Heat Only One Week Following Major Winter Weather.
In the wake of heavy downpours that led to inundation across parts of the city, Los Angeles is now seeing unseasonably warm weather for the end of February.
Record-Setting Heat
During the day Friday, the thermometer reached 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in the city center, as reported by weather officials. This breaks the previous daily record for this date, which was eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit and was established in 2025.
"Unusually high temperatures" were labeled on NWS charts for the region.
Safety Advisories
The weather service stated that Friday's heat posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their guidance suggested:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Reducing outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Not leaving children or pets unattended in a car.
A Sharp Weather Swing
This sudden spike in heat comes on the heels of a massive storm system that battered the state last week. That storm unleashed heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to mountainous regions, leading to flash flood warnings for millions residents.
Sadly, the severe weather also caused a deadly avalanche in the Lake Tahoe area, which resulted in nine fatalities.
Weekend Outlook
Forecasters predict a cooldown is coming. Readings were predicted to fall to around 61°F (16°C) in the city by overnight.
Additional areas that experienced 90°F were Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Elsewhere, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were projected to see the high 80s.
In the coming days, central Los Angeles can anticipate temperatures in the 80s, with a further cooldown likely for the week ahead.
