Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
