Paceman Gus Atkinson Exacerbates England's Fitness Problems.
'Serious blow' for the English camp as Atkinson leaves the field due to a hamstring issue.
Gus Atkinson increased the injury concerns plaguing England after leaving the playing area early on day two of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.
The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his left hamstring after the final ball that he bowled on Saturday.
The touring camp reported Atkinson felt some "soreness" and would spend time off the field for further assessment "in the coming hours".
The final Test in this Ashes battle at the SCG begins on Sunday, 4 January.
The English side has already lost strike bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on the current trip.
Matthew Fisher was added to the party to provide backup.
His form was underwhelming early in the series, managing only three wickets.
He was dropped from the previous Test, then recalled for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.
Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets during the host's first knock, then making 28 as a batsman among just a trio of teammates to reach double figures.
Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he came back for the second day's play and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.
However, at the end of that over, he sent down a change of pace to the batsman and suddenly grabbed at his leg.
Gus Atkinson was recalled for the Melbourne match following his omission the previous Test.
