Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his future following a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the club's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received significant support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I sense the trust. However I've not talked to them since this game yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
The manager highlighted familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a spell like this with performances like these.”
He finished, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone again the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
