The Details Known Regarding the Victims of the Bondi Beach Shooting
No fewer than 16 individuals perished and in excess of 40 were hurt when attackers fired on a Hanukkah gathering at Bondi Beach, an incident Australian authorities are describing as a terrorist attack.
As of the newest reports, authorities have confirmed the number of fatalities stands at 16, including one of the suspected attackers. Moreover, 42 wounded individuals were taken to medical facilities.
Those who died have not yet been officially identified, but authorities state their ages span between 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger
Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.
Known as a father-of-five, he was the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and friends remembered him as âvivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting othersâ.
âHow is it possible that a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?â a family member said.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their newest son just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, according to his wife.
She recounted the moments before the attack, explaining they had been standing together when the gunfire began. âHe moved to protect me because he wished to be near me,â she stated.
The husband and wife were both survivors of the Holocaust, having faced immense hardship in their childhood. They had later immigrated to Australia from Eastern Europe.
Dan Elkayam
French authorities have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.
Officially, the Foreign Minister expressed that France shared the grief of his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
âThis despicable act is a new, tragic manifestation of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,â the statement continued.
One Child
A child who was rushed to the Sydney Childrenâs Hospital is among those who had died, according to police reports.
One Israeli Citizen
One victim from Israel was a fatality during the attack, as per multiple sources citing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people transported to hospital, a significant number are still receiving treatment, with five in a critical state. Those hurt include two police officers who attended the scene.
One of the injured is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to confront one of the gunmen. Described as a local hero, he received bullet wounds but is recovering well in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. Sources state he was wounded and is receiving treatment in hospital.
Communicating, he recounted the incident as an âhorrific scene,â but also praised the actions of those who rushed to help. He said he felt it was a âstroke of luckâ he was alive.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the shooting. He described he listened to âa large numberâ of gunshots.
âInitially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,â he said. âI was hit. I received first aid. Iâm ok.â
