The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers launched a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few key adjustments:
- Every squad has only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Activities done by real players grant full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.
In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players looking for different ways to enjoy the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else lists everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the community compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
