The Princess of Wales's Annual Yuletide Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from performers including award-winning actors.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The theme of the service, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the carol service.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the former royal to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the trust, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Within the audience will be people from various age groups.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
