This Limited-Edition Pikachu Promo Aims to Curb the Influence Against Resellers

To celebrate the launch of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting collaboration has been formed. The Pokémon Company and London's Natural History Museum will launch a temporary store featuring exclusive items. Enthusiasts can look forward to offerings including plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies that are inspired by the museum's theme. For collectors, however, is a specially made Pikachu card, offered as a free bonus at the pop-up. This shop is scheduled both the physical location and online between late January and mid-April.

The Book Behind the Partnership

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a highly anticipated tome packed with stunning artwork depicting creatures in their natural habitats. The concept like the kind of research a Pokémon Professor might publish once trainers provide field notes, alternatively what Charles Darwin might have created if the famous islands teemed with flying-types rather than finches. Part of the charm lies in the book's scholarly approach, presenting Pokémon as worthy of subject for study. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara together with artist Chihiro Kinoshita both hold PhDs in animal behavior and ecology.

Why This Special Card Stand Out

It is common to issue special edition promos celebrating big events or crossover partnerships. Many of these promotional cards typically highlight the iconic mouse Pokémon that acts as the series face. The factor setting this new promotion apart however, is the unusually large dimensions. While precise specs have not been immediately shared, availability will certainly be strictly limited, with fans limited to only a single card with each transaction.

Limiting Speculator Activity

Per an official announcement, some of the pop-up items may also be available outside the institution itself. However, a wider release will only be select retailers within the UK. Importantly, collectors cannot acquire this promo via the official web shop. Although reseller interest is a given, it appears they're going to have trouble stockpiling large numbers this time around. If you're feeling left out, consider the upcoming Pokémon Fossil exhibit headed to Chicago later this year.

"All profits of sales from the Museum shop and its web shop, including Pokémon products, go toward the Natural History Museum’s non-profit work. This includes the efforts of hundreds of researchers dedicated to scientific inquiry and finding solutions to the global ecological crisis," it says.
