This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as pardoning festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life free from concern.”
The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, provided by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
