Alina Habba has stepped down as the US Attorney for New Jersey. This decision was prompted by a court battle that invalidated her right to occupy the role.
Official Departure
US Attorney General, the Attorney General, confirmed the prosecutor's departure on Monday. In a statement that the court's "flawed" ruling made it impossible for her to lead the department effectively.
"Let no one confuse following the order as giving up," she wrote. "My fight will now extend throughout the country."

Habba's exit follows closely on a judicial panel found that she had been unlawfully serving as the federal prosecutor. This decision is could influence scores of legal proceedings in the state.
The court said that a interim role that bypassed Senate approval violated the federal law governing appointments.

Bondi said that the former prosecutor will continue working within the justice department as a high-level advisor. Habba plans to seek further review of the court's action, with hopes of a reversal.
Writing online, the Attorney General argued that the court "must not countermand the appointment of prosecutors responsible for carrying out the executive branch's core responsibility of prosecuting crime."

Habba, was initially recruited to Donald Trump's lawyers in 2021. She went on to represented Trump in his business records case in the previous year, when he was guilty verdict on dozens of charges of financial record manipulation.
Prior to Habba took on the federal prosecutor position, Trump had revealed he was naming her as his senior adviser during his second administration, calling her as deeply loyal and a dedicated fighter for justice.
